We are pleased to announce that Manual Transfers can now be requested electronically via the Söderberg & Partners platform. These transfers will be visible within the Transfers Workbench, providing greater transparency and ease of tracking.
The enhanced user journey will guide you on the requirements of a transfer based on the product type and the ceding provider, removing ambiguity and delivering a more efficient process.
A manual transfer occurs when the ceding scheme requires additional supporting documentation, such as signed discharge forms, to accompany the transfer request.
Whether a transfer is deemed manual and which types of signatures (wet, scanned, or electronic) are accepted - is determined by the ceding scheme.
To support this, we maintain a ‘Golden List’ of manual ceding schemes, categorised by accepted signature type.
Key Process Changes:
- Complete the Manual Transfer Form
- Instruct the Transfer Request via the platform electronically
- The system will notify you whether a wet, electronic or scanned signature is acceptable
-
Once submitted, the transfer will be visible on the Transfers Workbench
Which transfer-in requests still need to be submitted via the Service-Centre?
Some transfer types will still require manual handling via the Service Centre:
- Partially crystallised pension transfers (that have a manual ceding scheme)
- Partial cash pension transfers (that have a manual ceding scheme)
- Beneficiary drawdown cases
- Pension sharing orders
- Block transfers
Acceptable signature prompts:
When submitting the transfer request, the platform will now prompt you with the type of signature accepted by the ceding scheme, The possible signature types and what they mean are outlined below:
Wet signatures
The platform will now trigger a prompt if a wet signature is required.
When selecting a ceding scheme that requires a wet signature, the following notification will be displayed.
When the notification is dismissed, an information call out will be displayed on the journey:
Electronic signatures
When selecting a ceding scheme that requires an electronic signature, a different call out note will be displayed:
Scanned signatures
When selecting a ceding scheme that requires a physical signature, a call out note will be displayed to indicate this requirement:

New Transfer Workflow Statuses
With this release, you will notice three new statuses in the transfer workflow:
-
Awaiting documentation
You have created a transfer-in that requires physical documents sent to our Bath office. Once we have recieved and checked everything, we will send the request to the ceding provider and update the status to ‘With previous provider’
-
Verifying documentation
We have received your supporting documents through the platform, and we are performing anti-malware checks. Once complete, the status will move to ‘Reviewing documentation’
-
Reviewing documentation
Our operations team is reviewing the transfer request and supporting documents. Once approved, we will forward everything to the ceding provider and move the status to ‘With previous provider’
This update is part of our ongoing commitment to simplify and digitise the transfer process.
